Defining Chronic Homelessness

Another resources has been added to this blog to help you secure housing for people who are homeless.  As you know, a person must meet the definition for Chronic Homelessness in order to be eligible for supportive housing programs. HUD compiled a document that details chronic homelessness, documentation requirements, etc.

HUD Definition of Homeless

For your convenience and guidance, we have included a resource document from the National Alliance to End Homelessness called "Changes in the HUD Definition of Homeless."

A link can be found to the right of this blog under Definitions Related to Eligibility.

This is an extremely helpful guide that delineates specifically how homelessness is defined:  4 categories, eligibility for permanent supportive housing, etc.  On pages 3-6 there are tables contrasting the former and new definitions.  Furthermore, the tables include a column detailing the required documentation to substantiate homelessness (chronic or otherwise.)

Please take the time to familiarize yourselves with this resource.

For your convenience, you may access the document with this link:  Changes in the HUD Definition of Homeless
