Severe Weather Shelter Protocols Activated

CCEH Logo_color

Evonne M. Klein, commissioner of the state Department of Housing, reactivated the severe weather protocols for Connecticut on Monday Jan. 6, 2014. The protocols are activated through Wednesday, the commissioner said.

The protocols are:

Anyone in need of shelter should contact 2-1-1 for assistance in locating a shelter placement.

If a shelter is unable to make room for a client, that shelter can call 2-1-1 for assistance with transportation and overflow shelter possibilities.

3      2-1-1 may contact a shelter even after the shelter has reported that it is full.  The 2-1-1 call specialist will ask that shelter to identify an existing client to send to a hotel, thereby creating an available slot for a client referred by 2-1-1.   Call specialists will not offer hotel stays to callers directly: 2-1-1 will work exclusively through shelters, who will identify current shelter clients for hoteling if and only if necessary to create space for new clients in urgent need of shelter.

Please send updates on shelter overflow and/or warming centers to infodepartment@ctunitedway.org.

5      Please post this protocol by your phones to ensure that staff on other shifts are aware of this effort through Saturday morning.

Thank you!  Please contact CCEH if you have any questions or need help.  You may reach Lisa Tepper Bates, CCEH Executive Director, during the weather emergency at 860-389-3495.
